“the most beautiful thing you can wear is confidence.”–blake lively
a new year is upon us! while i haven’t quite pegged my goals or resolutions for the year, i’m fully ready to embrace 2019. (i started the year off with a bang **literally** and chopped my hair. adding bangs has been a fun change.) i look forward to other transitions in the months ahead.
today, i wanted to round up my favorite items—eight items to be exact—from 2018. my dear friend and fellow blogger, ana luiza, memorialized her most worn outfits, and i thought it was a fun, creative concept. amid a season of “new beginnings,” i’ve spent time cleaning and organizing my closet. i’ve purged 150+ items, but have held on to everything below! without further adieu, my top eight—
one (1): my sheer yellow raincoat
i ordered this jacket online—at 12:01 a.m.—when the hunter for target collection launched. i couldn’t wait for it to arrive, and it fully lived up to my expectations! it’s a fun, lightweight jacket and has proven useful during several rainstorms. you can see how i styled it for a trip to the skagit valley tulip festival here. (i also incorporated the raincoat into my halloween costume last fall.)
two (2): my cropped polka dot pants
these darling pants were a zara purchase. (i think they cost $35—such a deal.) they are incredibly comfortable, and i enjoy wearing them to work with a blouse, t-shirt, or sweater! the high-waist style is ideal for tucking tops in. you can see additional photos in this post.
three (3): my sparkly black dress
i purchased this little black dress at nordstrom rack prior to my 30th birthday. it’s flirty and festive, and i couldn’t wait to style it. paired with a blazer or denim jacket, this dress is perfect for nearly any occasion! (i should have worn it on new year’s eve.) you can see more of this dress and read my thoughts on turning 30 here.
four (4): my denim sherpa coat
my darling coworkers and i fell in love with the denim sherpa trend. we found several pricey options online and eventually ordered this jacket from old navy. (it retails for $50, but we purchased them on sale pre-holidays.) unfortunately, this exact style is sold out, but i’ve seen similar styles—at affordable price points—at target, kohl’s, and nordstrom rack. if you haven’t yet jumped on the #sherpajackettrend, i highly recommend purchasing one. it’s incredibly cozy and versatile!
five (5): my distressed “mom” jeans
mom jeans (noun): a slang term for high-waisted women’s jeans that were originally fashionable in the late 80s and early 90s. they were primarily worn by middle-aged american women but resumed popularity in 2010. (source)
if you’d asked me three years ago whether i’d wear “mom jeans,” i would have said, “no way!” i purchased this distressed pair at american eagle last year, and i can’t tell you how many times i’ve worn them. the wash is great for a variety of colorful tops! i’ve shared these jeans on my blog a handful of times, but this is by far my favorite post.
six (6): my graphic t-shirts
“how many witty graphic tees does one girl need?” in my opinion, you can never have too many. =) they’re perfect to pair with skirts or denim, and i enjoy wearing t-shirts to the office under a blazer. when compiling my top eight items of 2018, it was difficult to narrow down which t-shirt is my favorite, so i’ll share links to my top three: here, here, and here.
seven (7): my yellow mules
mustard yellow—the color i couldn’t get enough of in 2018. i purchased yellow tops, jackets, bags, and shoes! these velvet mules from forever 21 are one of my favorite yellow items. unfortunately, they’re not particularly comfortable, so i only wear them for short periods of time. you can see how i styled the mules with a dress here and denim here.
eight (8): my dachshund sweater
how could i not include my dachshund sweater in today’s roundup? i saw it online at loft last fall and immediately popped into my local store. this sweater is soft and slightly oversized, which makes it a great every day piece. sadly, it’s no longer available, but i promise to update you if it’s ever back in stock. i shared several other must-have dachshund items in this post.
and these are my most-loved items of 2018! i’m eager to look back in 2019 to see if i’m still wearing these pieces. as my organizing and purging continues, it’s fun to reflect on the memories associated with certain outfits. do you have a favorite (or favorites) clothing item?
