halloween is one day away—october, where did you go? let the last-minute costume preparations begin!
earlier this fall, i randomly perused the internet for star-print dresses (as one does). on shein—a website known for their affordable, fast-fashion styles—i saw this dress. with the glitter and mesh, layered skirt, it’s rather eclectic, but i thought it would be fun to wear in an upcoming blog post. at $23, i couldn’t afford not to buy it. and shortly after clicking “purchase,” i remembered my bff jenn has a similar dress in black!
i promptly sent jenn a link to my dress, and we decided to band together on costumes—a good and bad witch!
for all you know, a witch may be living next door to you right now.” –roald dahl
i have to admit, my costume plans were somewhat lacking this year. and taking photos during a cold, rainy fall season proved difficult. alas, we had a reprieve from the rain last weekend, and jenn and i were able to make our debut as witches! costume tip: if you don’t have these items, borrow from friends, look online for secondhand options, or visit your local thrift store. (my friend sahily shared additional costume tips here.)
for my good witch costume, i used these items:
- a sweet, midi or full-length dress (a similar style can be found here)
- white ankle boots
- a hat (a headband will also work)
- a wand
- highlighter (i used this in the shade “whimsy”)
- pink lipstick
it is important to remember that we all have magic inside us.” –j.k. rowling
i love how jenn’s eye makeup and lipstick complement her dress! her exact dress is part of a past holiday collection at h&m, but i’ve linked similar options below.
and for the bad witch costume, you will need:
- a black midi or full-length dress (a similar dress is available in black, and this style is equally spooky)
- black heels or ankle boots
- a hat (a headband will also work)
- a cauldron
- dark eye makeup
- dark lipstick (i recommend this liquid lipstick in the shade “black raspberry”)
