spring has officially sprung in the pacific northwest!
the sun has made a few (albeit brief) appearances, and the
temperatures are warming ever-so-slightly. i can walk
comfortably in the sunshine sans jacket, though one is still
required during my early morning walk to the office.
a few weekends ago, i packed up my bag (or more accurately,
numerous bags) to embark on a day trip to the skagit valley tulip
festival. if you aren’t from washington, you have likely seen
photos from our annual tulip festival; it is stunning!
the tulips are in bloom early spring, and the fields are a mere
hour+ drive north of the city. it is well worth the trip.
the bloggers and i packed a handful of outfits for our
day. the car was full of clothes, shoes and handbags galore!
our first stop, after coffee, of course, was
to roozengaarde, one of the larger tulip fields in skagit valley.
roozengaarde is five acres and home to more than 250,000 bulbs.
the tulips are replanted each year to create beautiful, colorful
displays (if you weren’t able to stop by, you can see the tulips
next season in the spring of 2018).
despite visiting towards the end of the season, the tulips
remained vibrant. the photo opportunities were seemingly
endless, and each blogger was able to choose tulips that color-
coordinated with her outfit — it is the little things, right?
it had been several years since my last visit to
skagit valley, and previously, i don’t think i appreciated how
beautiful the tulip fields can be. walking through
the rows is strongly discouraged, as it can harm
the blooming flowers, but we quickly (and gently) snuck
through for photo purposes.
i shared my newfound love for culottes in this post,
and after finding (and subsequently falling in love with)
my high rise denim culottes, i sought a dressier pair to wear to
work. the delicate leaf print on this pair is seemingly perfect
next to the tulips. i hadn’t planned to wear a jacket, but
our day in skagit valley was both windy and chilly.
fortunately this leather jacket, though light, is relatively warm!

have you visited the skagit valley tulip festival,
or a similar festival in your home town? i put together
two outfits for our morning adventure at roozengaarde,
and i will share the second look next week!
