winter is officially “on” in the pacific northwest—we received an epic bout of snow two weeks ago—and it’s done a number on my face. cold, dry weather one day, and a mix of rain and snow the next? it feels like my skin is saying, “hold up! what’s going on?” #dryskinproblems
i typically struggle with blemish-prone, combination skin, but in the winter months, i treat a dull, dry complexion. i amended my skincare routine to include hydrating products, rather than those that exclusively target breakouts. i’d like to say it’s made a difference! i still experience breakouts and flaky skin on occasion, but this year feels better than last. it’s a balancing act; i notice a positive correlation between the amount of water i drink and quality of my sleep, and how my skin fares.
today, i’ve rounded up a few skincare brands i can’t live without. i’m also sharing makeup products i enjoy during the winter months!
i’m frequently asked about my daily skin and makeup routines. during the workweek, i limit my makeup to foundation, blush, and a translucent-setting powder. (on weekends, i may add a touch of eye shadow, bronzer, and lipstick.) however, my skincare routine is seemingly “extra” all the time. =)
one major time savor—both during the week and on weekends—is my lash extensions. i visit dulce lash lounge bi-monthly for volume lashes. (if you’re new to the world of extensions, most salons offer “classic” and/or “volume” lashes. classic lash extensions adhere one false lash to the base of your natural lash; volume lash extensions consist of multiple false lashes per natural lash.) i like the look of full, fluffy lashes and find i can go longer between fills when i have a volume set.

in addition to the products above, a few of my favorite skincare and makeup brands include itcosmetics, dermalogica, neutrogena, origins, and ole henriksen. (dermalogica and ole henriksen are priced slightly higher, while the remaining brands are more budget friendly.)
i find my skin is happiest when i wash and apply moisturizer twice daily. at night, i use a serum, eye cream, and will spot treat blemishes. i also incorporate sheet masks or other hydrating masks throughout the week. this helps my complexion and is a great form of self-care!
how does your skin fare during the winter months? what are your favorite brands and/or products? i invite you to share in the comments!
